.Mac. Really Worth It? .Mac (Dot Mac) is a service provided by Apple to work seamlessly with your Mac. It includeds multiple email accounts, 1Gb storage, backup software, and integration with most Mac apps. However, it has a fairly high price of $99/year. Over the years Apple has dropped a few features like including Mcaffe's Virex program. So the question is: Is It Really Worth?

Well, it does have some good features, however, it's just a marketing technique. SInce most of their in-OS apps can integrate with this system, plus the function of the iDisk, they want to entice into buying their product for seemless integration with the apps. However, it's not a big deal, I mean, Mail can sync with IMAP accounts, so it doesn't have to be .Mac by itself. I have a friend who pays for it, but I'm not willing to give $100 for that. Sure, it's nice have an extra gig on the internet, but I can just get a 1 Gigabyte memory stick, and I don't have to be on the internet. Virex? What the hell for? I mean, it's proven that Macs have the solid foundation of UNIX, so why bother. Granted, no computer is completely secure. But, 114,000 viruses? Not on a Mac.

Reply I am just saying they have dropped features to it over the years. I understand that macs have no viruses.

I'm using the virus example as another reason not to get .Mac.
